I remember when I first read about draught and flooding and how little sense it made, like an oxymoron unfolding under my very eyes without a chance of redemption.
In Italy we say “it always rains on wet terrain” to mean money / luck / abundance piles up where money already is - but this image of a hardened soil incapable of absorbing what it needs the most is both melodramatic and frustrating.
We go to Mars. We circumnavigate the moon. We spend billions on wars and killing each other or alternatively, companies run by freaks generate billions every years which are spent on yachts and wedding extravaganza.
And we have ground weeping for water it cannot absorb.
On a brighter note.
Do you know Aries?
Aries (@Aries Aries on IG) is a fashion brand for whom I have immense respect.
Not ‘sustainable’ as such, it consistently never was, but absolutely perfect in so many other respects you know? Small-ish (the perfect size tbh), reliable, well made, amazing designs, uber cool, selling, doing well for years and years, faithful and loyal customers, really consistent etc etc.
anyway, they are about to launch a genial collaboration with M&S which redefines the old St Michael’s line. It will be iconic.
And I will be wearing it. They have offered to gift me a piece (I know the Aries founder / Creative Director but this is the first time they approached me this way, and I am soooooooo flattered!) and I am feeling a little like a fangran, as in a granny who is a consumate fan.
This bag is just amazing but you should see the whole collection, it’s brilliant.
I don’t do this often, and when I do it’s because I love, so forgive me if I come over all promotional and advertise-y, but I am genuinely still excitable at the sight of great clothes.

Yes sometimes harking back to traditional design or nostalgia isn't a bad thing. This says let's go back to the 90s and see what we threw out with the bath water....many things!
